Mermaids, sirens of the sea with breasts and fishtails, are creatures of folklore and myth, and may not be a typical sight on a bank holiday. But earlier this month, while landlubbers celebrated the platinum jubilee, a shoal of mermaids washed up on England’s southern shores. On 2 June, hundreds of people gathered in Plymouth’s Tinside Lido to take part in an attempt to break the world record of the largest gathering of people dressed as merfolk.

The Livermore High School softball team was defeated in the second round of the North Coast Section playoffs on May 24 with a 8-3 loss to the Marin Catholic Wildcats.

On May 23, the Livermore-Granada Boosters held their annual Olympian Award Banquet where the organization hands out the Olympian Scholarship to two Granada High student-athletes and two Livermore High student-athletes. Each winner received a $2,500 scholarship.

The Foothill High School baseball team lost the North Coast Section title game 9-6 to De La Salle High School on May 27.

The Amador Valley Dons’ volleyball team was defeated in the second round of the California Interscholastic Federation NorCal playoffs by the Woodcreek High Timberwolves on May 19 by a score of 3-0.

The end of the track season is near, but the Tri-Valley hosted one more event to showcase the best track teams in the Bay Area. The North Coast Section Meet of Champions took place on May 20-21 at Dublin High School and multiple Tri-Valley high schools participated.

The Granada High School softball team defeated the Amador Valley Dons 2-1 on May 18. The Matadors survive a first round upset and move on in the North Coast Section playoffs.

The Foothill High School baseball team defeated the De La Salle Spartans 4-1 on May 13 to win the East Bay Athletic League Championship. The Falcons capped off their EBAL tournament run defeating the 12th ranked team in the state.

All five Tri-Valley high schools competed at the North Coast Section (NCS) Tri-Valley Area Championships on May 14 and competed against some of the best track and field teams in the East Bay. Each school had moments of greatness, scoring high marks in each event.

The Amador Valley High School boys’ volleyball team took second place in the North Coast Section (NCS) playoffs on May 12, losing in the championship final against the College Park High School Falcons.

The Livermore High School softball team defeated the Granada Matadors 6-3 on May 5. The Cowboys defeated the No. 1 team in the East Bay Athletic League and finished the regular season on a high note. The Cowboys started off the game hot. They scored two runs in the first inning and three runs in the third to take a commanding 5-0 lead early.

The Foothill High School volleyball team was defeated by the Berkeley Yellowjackets by a score of 3-0 on May 5, ending their North Coast Section playoff run. The Falcons season ends as they finish the year with a record of 20-8. The Falcons playoff run started off well with a 3-0 win over American High School. They dominated the Eagles throughout the match and did not let American High come back within striking distance.

The Amador Valley girls’ lacrosse team was defeated by the Davis High Blue Devils 15-14 on May 5 in the second round of the North Coast Section playoffs. Amador defeated Davis High in an earlier matchup this year, but the Blue Devils avenge the earlier loss. The Dons’ NCS run ends in the second round with a loss at home.

The Livermore High School baseball team defeated the Monte Vista Mustangs 8-0 on April 27. The Cowboys bouncde back after losing back-to-back games and improve to get their 9th win of the year. The Cowboys got up early, scoring two runs in the first two innings. After scoring one run in the fourth inning, the Cowboys would take a commanding 5-0 lead in the fifth inning.

Pleasanton’s two high schools, Amador Valley and Foothill, met April 28 in a crosstown volleyball match. The Amador Dons defeated the Foothill Falcons 3-2. The Dons continue their dominant play as they pick up their 16th league win of the year.
